SORRENTO!
After some MUCH needed sleep we headed out to drive and tour along the Amalfi coast. The weather here is perfect - 69 degrees and sunny with little wind.
Nothing like a hot shower, cup of coffee and a good night's sleep to get you recharged!
Serena is our driver - her father Sal has brought her into the business, and she is knowledgeable and fun. Looking forward to spending the day with her. She was born in NYC but moved to Sorrento when she was 5 years old. Perfect person to spend the day with in Italy...
Breakfast with a view from our hotel
Lemons as decor - from the Limoncello capital of the world! After breakfast we headed out....
First stop - an overlook of Positano
Only one street in Positano allows cars. To get anywhere, you have to walk either up or down.
Beautiful shop selling linen clothing made in Positano as we begin our exploration...
Winding tree covered streets:

We make it to the bottom and the beach and duck into a cafe. Two cappuccino and a biscotto se tu per favor:
Geraniums everywhere are gorgeous:
Our stop for a "snack" in Positano at Buca de Bacco:
The beach at Positano
The stunningly beautiful church: Parrocchia Di San Gennaro
The amazing Torre a Mare - tower which served as protection from enemies and was constructed over 800 years ago:
A hamlet
A tiny fishing village or hamlet called Furore
From travel away:
Known as the "village that doesn’t exist", Furore is one of the Amalfi Coast’s most unusual destinations – a rugged little settlement scattered across the slopes of Lattari Mountains, amid olive groves, vineyards, and lemon trees overlooking the iridescent Mediterranean Sea.
Its most spectacular feature is the narrow gorge (Fiordo Di Furore) created by the ancient Schianto river and surrounded by soaring cliffs rising from the sea. Moreover, the town’s houses and walls are adorned with colorful murals by local and international artists, earning it the nickname “painted town”.

Our view as we drove by:
Next stop was a ceramic factory.
Doug on the rooftop at Piccadilly to shop for Italian ceramic goods (The owner, Giuseppe, showing us the garden and rooftop):
Stunning pieces - I was trying hard to figure out a place to put this table!
Jasmine smelled divine
LOVED these chairs!
Here's what we ended up with:
GORGEOUS! Plus a few little trinkets for the "kids"...

We then drove to Amalfi and were famished, so we stopped for a bite at this exquisite spot:
Ristorante Lido Azzurro:
Dining outside was heavenly!

Can't get enough of these beautiful tomatoes:
Fried anchovies
Escarole with capers
After lunch we walked up to the main square in Amalfi to explore and do a little shopping as well:
More shopping in Amalfi:

In the main square or Piazza del Duomo in Amalfi at the foot of the gorgeous chapel there that is the highlight of the town.
Beautiful chapel
Hiking up to the top:
View from the top overlooking the piazza:
Nativity scene and houses and cathedrals built into the rock:
Incredible hotel built into the mountain - complete with tennis court! Goes for roughly $3K a night starting - is known as THE most beautiful hotel in Positano. St Peter's Hotel

Groves of lemon trees and other crops
Private beach for the hotel guests
Yet another gorgeous overlook as we headed back to Sorrento:
Serena was the best driver and guide through the Amalfi coast and Sorrento!
Leaving Amalfi...maybe not as exciting for these two as it was for us?

EVENING:
We got back to our hotel and dropped off our things, regrouped and headed back out for a stroll and to pick up a few things we saw yesterday around Sorrento.
We're having dinner at a nearby restaurant tonight (L'Antico Trattoria), then tomorrow, we ferry over to Capri.
But first, a purchase of handmade leather shoes from Sorrento:
Shopping in Sorrento with stunning wisteria covered streets:

DINNER!
Our amuse bouche:
Octopus appetizer
White bean puree
An amazing dinner! We walked off the meal for a bit before turning in for the night. Capri bound in the am!
