WE'RE HEADING TO THE GREEK ISLES!

Our immediate family and extended family are heading for a vacation to the Greek Islands this summer!  We are all so excited about the trip, and none of us have travelled to that part of the world before.  There will be 14 of us heading over in May 2019!  Following the trip to the Greek Isles my husband and I are then traveling to Italy for 5 nights.

ITINERARY

5 nights in Mykonos
2 nights in Santorini
5 additional nights in Sorrento, Capri and Rome

We've rented an airbnb in Mykonos for our immediate family of 6, and my brother and his group of 7 will be staying in a villa right next door.

THEN we head to Santorini, and we're staying in a hotel.  After much research, we chose a fabulous place in Oia - the best place on the island to watch the famous sunset.

Follow along as we travel through this beautiful country, see the sights, and we eat amazing food!

We decided to give our adult "kids" the gift of the trip as their main Christmas present this past December.  They have to get themselves over to Greece, and we're footing the bill for the airbnb and hotel (among a few other things).

To get them (and us) excited and in the mood for all things Greek, we've been "gifting" them since September each month with something "Greek" oriented such as:

Some fresh Greek olives:

Here's how they are often packaged in Greece (to make it easy to buy and take home for yourself or as gifts):

Some fabulous Greek honey (to drizzle over Greek yogurt naturally).  Greece has more bee hives per acre than any other country in Europe.  And much like their wines, the honey is natural:

A refrigerator magnet from Greece (one of the biggest souvenir collectable items from there):

A mini bottle of Greek olive oil:

Finally, no trip would be complete if you don't do some prep (not just ME) - so all of us need to be a bit familiar with the language prior to going.  And the Greek language is TOUGH!  There's a reason for the cliche, "It's all Greek to me" - meaning something that's impossible to understand!

And I have a few more tricks up my sleeve that I'll blog about later! ;0)

We're getting very excited as it's about 4 months away from our trip!

PS. MYKONOS' MASCOT:

"Peter the Pelekan in Mykonos"

From Wikipedia:

(Petros was a great white pelican. It was the official mascot of the Greek island of Mykonos.
In 1958, a wounded pelican was found off the coast of Mykonos by a local fisherman. The pelican was nursed to health and remained on the island supported by locals. It soon adopted the name "Petros", as a joke among locals, as "petro" in Greek means "rock" or "stone", but metaphorically "old and grumpy". Petros was hit and killed by a car in December 1985.
Subsequently, three new pelicans took up residence around the main town of Mykonos. One, honorifically, was given the name "Petros".
